GTA 3 - saving problems

hi there
i am aware that GTA 3 has many graphical problems. But i have't been able to find someone with the same problems as me. I can't seem to be able to save the game at all. Everytime i try it tells me that the save was unsuccessful. i always have to start the game from the very begining. its very irritateing. Can anyone help...?
