Problems with Yahoo SBC DSL and PPPoE

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm running Windows 2000 Professional.

I'm trying to set up my connection with Yahool SBC DSL.

It's wasn't working so I called up Yahoo SBC and asked for help. After playing with a bunch of things, the tech said that I have to go to Microsoft to fix my problem. The problem is that there is no PPPoE (whatever that is) available.

I called Microsoft. They said they'd be happy to help, please give them $200.

I don't have $200. I'd just cancel this DSL thing but apparently I'm now on the hook for $400 if I just say forget it. Of course, I don't have $200 either?

If they sell me DSL, shouldn't they sell me the software that works with it?

Can anyone offer me a cheaper alternative that paying Microsoft $200 to help me (and probably with no promise that their help will work)

get a linksys router. any router that supports ppoe will do, I just say linksys because I have one (BEFSR41) and sbc dsl and it works fine. The linksys has the ability to connect through PPOE, you just put in your username and password in the config and set your computer for dhcp. you should be able to pick on up for about $80 so its cheaper than the $400 option plus you can hook up more than one computer with the router.

I agree with slugo.

For more SBC Yahoo DSL info, check out some of my experiences I had with them in this thread: http://www.opentechsupport.net/foru...&threadid=14393

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm going to try and use the software at:

http://www.raspppoe.com/

If that fails, I'll run down to the store and pick up a linksys router.

Thanks Much,

Bob
