i have a msi 128mb ddr g4 ti4200 and when i install the drivers from the cd i get an error message saying it has not past the windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows xp. should i continue anyway or stop installation

Go ahead and install.

All that Windows compatiblity message means is that the Manufacturer paid Microsoft several thousand dollars for someone at Microsoft to run what is probably a fairly standardized checklist of tests for the most obvious issues with that type of hardware. It is by no means any sort of guarentee that there are no bugs.

Furthermore, while the hardware you are installing is fairly recent, you will find a lot of older hardware where the manfacturer was nice enough to release an updated driver for XP, but did not bother getting the certification. Which is not surprising, really, considering the cost of getting certified is more than its worth for older hardware.

And even when a company provides certified drivers, they are usually a rev. or two behind the latest version.

In fact, about the only sector where that MS certification is really important is the business sector when dealing with hardware/software that needs to be up as much as possible. There you will often see IT managers locking systems down so that any hardware installed must have certified drivers.
