Random game crashes

My computer has been crashing a lot and I realised that it only happens in 3D games. I could easily resimulate the problem by playing a 3D game or running 3D Mark. The games just crashes and exits to windows like nothing has happened. I tried reformatting twice to trying to fix the problem, once I installed all the lastest drivers and the second time I only installed the default drviers. By default I mean the drivers that came on the CD.
My PC Specs:
Windows XP Pro SP1a
AMD Athlon XP 2100+ @ 1.74
512 MB DDR Ram
ASUS A7V333 Mobo
Creative Audigy 2 Platinum
Gigabyte Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
Direct X 8.1
Antec 480W PSU

Could be a ram chip going bad I recently had that problem myself crashed everything I ran was geting very annoying till i finaly tried one ram chip at a time to see if one was faulty sure enough my 256 went to crap and was making just about anything i was trying to run on my comp crash 
Course this may not be your problem but just a suggestion.
