Gateway Solo 9300 Blues

My stepson recently aquired a Solo 9300 for his schoolwork. The original owner had lost the power supply adapter. We sourced the correct adapter and have been unable to boot the laptop. The laptop has sat for a long period, the battery has no charge and when we connect the power adapter the green indicator light dims and starts flashing. No lights appear on the laptop? I have checked that everything is connected properly, but have no idea what my next move should be.
Any help would be most appreciated.

You might try pulling the battery out and booting without it. As long as the laptop has AC power it should boot.

If that works, you might have a bad battery. If not, there is something seriously wrong with the computer.

Thanks for the battery idea. I had already tried that approach, to no avail unfortunately! Seems like I may have to continue the detective work and start stripping it down bit by bit to try and identify the fault. Thanks for your help.
