Problems installing new RAM

I'm trying to install some more RAM into my emachines T1220. My computer came with 128MB PC133 SDRAM. I'm trying to replace it with 2 things of Mushkin 256MB PC133 SDRAM.
I take out the current RAM and put in the Mushkin RAM. I turn the computer on, and the monitor doesn't turn on. The computer makes a series of beeps (1-3-3-1) at that's it. I've tried putting in just one Mushkin RAM instead of both, but I get the same problem. My dad found me a list of BIOS beeps and their meanings, and it says that 1-3-3-1 is for "Autosize DRAM", but I have no idea what that means.
When I put back the 128MB the computer came with, it all works fine. Anyone know what I can do to get my new RAM to work, or what "Autosize DRAM" means?

every thing i searched related to that beep code, indicates that you have bad or incompatible memory. more than likely, incompatible memory would apply to your situation.

But I don't see why it would be incompatable. I was using 128MB PC133 non-ECC SDRAM, I'm trying to replace it with 256MB PC133 non-ECC SDRAM. I even checked Mushkins website, and it said that the memory I'm trying to install has been tested to work on the chipset I have.

I agree. I don't see why that ram would be incompatable either. Take a look at information on Bios flashes for your board, that have been released, to see if ram issues have been addressed.
I guess though, if you have the latest Bios, then that wouldn't help either.
It would be a Freak thing if you possibly have two new Bad ram modules. Some how, i don't think that's likely, although anything is possible.

Did you try with just 1 of the new sticks of ram in alternating slots? Could be possible your using too much ram that your system cant handle.

I tried just about every different combination of sticks in slots. My motherboard manual says I can have up to 512MB using two sticks of 256MB.

I'm having the exact same problem trying to up grade my HP 510w. I put the 256meg in and the monitor won't work. I go back to the 128meg bars and it works fine. I've had HP support and everyone I can find trying to solve this. My brother said to try changing the refresh rate, but that did no good either.

Update all possible drivers (chipset and stuff), flash the BIOS.

Thanks azzi, I will try that. gun44

Try resetting your cmos. This will put the default ram timings back... If you ever changed the settings with your old ram. You could try sticking your old ram in and mess with memory settings before putting new memory in too.

Thanks, I will try that.
