Games preformance problems

Hi, i have a problem with my new computer,
please help me!

I have a win 98se,
AMDXP2000,
256mb DDR,
128mb GF4
and in age of myth, GTA3, Hitman, etc, i have slow down in the graphics even with the res and detail turned right down, i assume this isnt due to my pc spec, as it seems to be more powerful than the recommended spec on the games im playing but i still have slow down (often quite choppy graphics and sound too).
Is there a likely reasen for this? (btw there arent any programs running in the bakgrond)

thank you for any help you can give me.

post the rest of the information on your video card. is it a Gforce4 MX card or a Gforce4 Ti card?

MX cards are value cards that don't even come close to the performance of Ti cards, which if MX is what you have, that would explain the performance issues.

also post the specs on your motherboard and sound. is your sound integrated, or are you using a sound card?

Hey, that was quick!

yeah i have a MX 440 and integrated sound on a . is that why i get slow down\choppy games then?

NB- i think i have a K7S5A PRO board (if that means any thing)
and it says in the manual that it only supports 266 ddr and mine is 333, could this be a problem too?

thanks again for any help.

Yes, the MX card and integrated sound, is why you are having performance trouble with games.

In regards to your ram, as long as you are not having trouble with your computer locking up, or ram related errors, your board must be OK running the 333 ddr.

I'd say try adding some more ram but Win98 can't go above 256mb. Maybe it's time for an upgrade to WinXP.

Sure it can. I still have it installed and it's running fine with 512 mb.

well i have XP, but no cd key yet, but i will increase my ram soon, however i only have 2 dimm for ddr, so could i put 512 with my 256? (my board can support 1gb of ram)

Yes.

Just make sure you try to find the same brand and speed of ddr to assure yourself of no ram related issues.
