Windows XP boot problem....

I am trying to put XP pro on two systems. One is a Duron 900, the other is a XP 1700. Both install fine. Once the Duron system was returned to the owner, it was brought back to me the next day and refuses to boot. It says something about a hardware change, but there has been no hardware change. The other system does the same thing. I was able to get it to boot into safe mode after using a DOS utility (I don't remember which one). But it still won't boot. One of the machines did say something about the pagefile.sys file having an invalid size. Someone told me that my problem isn't unique, and there is a fix of some type for it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
