I knew this was coming, and i'm sure the US is eager to place a strong fist in this area. Here's a clip from MSNBC:
“TO ENSURE our forces are fully prepared to defend against attacks on our space-based infrastructure, we have recently activated two new squadrons,” said Army Lt. Gen. Edward Anderson, deputy commander of the U.S. Space Command.
The mission of the Air Force Space Command’s new 527th Space Aggressor Squadron is to “replicate the known capabilities of potential adversaries,” he testified.
The unit — with headquarters at Shriever Air Force Base in Colorado — would play the role of the enemy in war games like that held at Shriever in January, the first of a series of Air Force exercises based on conflict in space, Anderson said.
The other startup, the 76th Space Control Squadron of the Air Force Space Command, based at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, is to “explore future space control technologies by testing models and prototypes of counterspace systems with the goal of rapidly achieving space superiority,” he said. It was activated on Jan. 22, according to an Air Force fact sheet.
Even though I think this is still a ways away, it's nice to be prepared. Knocking out satellites would have a huge effect on the US's communication during a war. Read more here.

Somehow I am not all that reassured. Who is this geared against? The Russians who can't even finance a rocket these days, or the Chinese, a nation that is xenophobic and mind their business on the world scene unless it has something to do with Taiwan. Who else would whack a US satellite...who else could have the resources to do it? The European Union? Japan? Come on, I don't see the need for US tax payers to fund this little expensive game of preparedness...unless they are worried about space aliens? Just my opinions.
