ATI Radeon 9700 Pro

Hey How are You. I like tour website, but I got a problem.
I recently bought this kick-ass computer:
-Windows XP
-P4 3.0 Gig
-1 Ghz
-80 gig harddrive
-ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 126mb
-etc...
And I also bought the old copy of Diablo 2 from my friend, but after I installed it, I couldn't get it started when I try to start it, the screen goes black for about 30 seconds, and then I;m sent back to my desktop.
Before I bought this particular video card (ATI Radeon), I had a GeForce 3, and it worked fine, and I was still on XP.
I've been told by my friends to check for updatesfor my videocard, but I haven't found any that seemed to resolve the problem of Diablo 2.
I'd greatly appreciate it if you could help me.

Did you try doing a video test before you played it?
start -> programs -> diablo II -> video test

Have you downloaded all the patches from Blizzard? If not, go to http://www.blizzard.com/patches and grab the 1.09 patch.
Have you downloaded all the latest drivers for the video card? If not, go to the ATI website and grab the newest drivers for the card.
