I've been noticing recently that my 19" monitor is a lot darker than most other monitors. It's like if I have standard lower brightness or contrast control. I don't know exactly what's wrong and I have no idea but I'm trying to find a way to get it brighter. Thanks if you can.

fiddle with the brightness, contrast, and gamma until you get what you want. it can take a while, of course.

I had the same problem. It was solved when I went to Start >> Settings >> Control Panel and found a program called ATI Gamma Control that had been installed along with my video card software. In the Gamma Control program, I found I could adjust the monitor back to a "normal" level of brightness that I couldn't get with just the controls on the monitor itself.

Other video cards may install similar software. What kind of video card do you have?

ya, you can also right click on the desktop and look in graphic options, then graphic properties, i think thats what redwench is talking about...

Voodoo 5 5500.

I was looking for a place to deal with gamma, but so far no luck.

If it's an old LCD you might need to buy a new one.
I hear they get dim after a while.

Nah, it's a CRT. Thanks anyways.
