Will this work?

Currently I have two computers networked through a HUB, I have DSL connected to one of the computers and Internet sharing is activated. To access the Net from the second comp I need to turn on my comp that has the DSL connected to it. My question is, if I was to move the DSL onto the HUB would I still be able to access it, and would this then make it available to both computers on the network? without having to turn on both of them.

The way you are set up, one computer gets online, then shares its connection with another. If you use a router/hub/switch, it'd be exactly the same, except with the router/hub/switch being the first computer, and all other computers being the second (and third, and fourth).
If you connect a hub to your (56k/cable/DSL) modem, then you only need to connect to the hub to get online (assume the modem is also online, d'uh). You don't need to care what other computers are connect (uless they are using up a lot of bandwidth), nor whether they be on or off.
Personally, I would recommend a router instead of a hub, but as long as it gets the job done.

ok cool thanks... it may or not be a router, all I know is that it's an 8-port with an uplink port, flat and rather non-descript. Pretty sure it's a hub though. But thanks for that info, I thought it would do something like that but I wasn't sure, now for tricky manipulation of the networking software lol

ok uhm the prob I'm having is how to set the comps up to recognise that the DSL is now on the hub rather than on a comp, any ideas? I am using XP Pro

Is your DSL modem plugged into the uplink port?

yep... does it make a difference if it's ADSL or if it needs a user/pass to log in?
