Dirty XBox

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Lately my XBox has been saying disks are dirty when in fact they aren't, they're brand spankin' new. My guess is that there's dust on the lens or something to that extent. XBox tech support told me I need to send it in to get repaired and pay 100 clams for that. Which is bogus; no way I'm paying $100 for them to spray it with air-in-a-can. Anyone else had this problem and/or have any ideas on how to fix it?

Have you tried spray air-in-a-can on it yourself?

Consider getting a optical drive cleaner. it's a fuzzy 'disk' you put cleaning solution in, then the drive 'reads' it and magically becomes clean again.

for a minute there, I thought you were gonna show us some xbox pr0n

LOL Laggy.

Ghetto I've read about that happening to other people in some of the Xbox forums. I would go with what Hackenslacker suggested first. Alot of people said cleaning it fixed the problem, and others found that they laser was out of alignment and sending it in was the only way to have it fixed.

How long have you had your Xbox? If its within the first year it should be covered under warranty.

You mean its not just PS2 that has this problem? Say it aint so!

It's actually not that big of problem. Usually from what I've read it was mostly happening in the first generation boxes.

The PS2 problem actually is a voltage problem more than anything. It can be fixed yourself by uping the voltage per a screw on the motherboard. The only problem is that you have to crack it open and disassemble it somewhat to get to the screw.

There was a guy here in Boise, that was buying PS2s off e-bay with the read problem and fixing them this way, then re-selling them in his game shop. He was only charging $20 for people to come in and have theirs fixed.

What about the thing where you have to boil the xbox discs? The first time I saw that, I thought it was a joke.

Ive yet to hear about gamecube crapping out. Although I havent read any cube forums in a long time.

Yeah I have a first generation box. I picked it up right when it was released.

I haven't tried the air-in-a-can myself yet. I wanted to make sure that was a viable solution before I wasted money on air. I'll probably pick up a cleaning disk and a can of air this week. Do they have different disks for different platforms? or are they universal?

hmmmmm i dont think using a can of air will work considering the air sprays hella fast and might damage your lens i just recentley sent in my xbox warranty card that came in the box i dont know if yours has it because it is a first gen but microsofts deal with me is if i pay like 25 dollars a year its full warranty under the processor hard drive ,nvidia card ,etc so try to get one of those warranty cards or try to use one of those lens cleaners
