I give up, my computer is cursed

when I first built this computer, I had bad ram and bad motherboard. I RMA them then get things going for the first time about a month after I first planned to. Everything is fine except for some reason, the floppy drive won't work no matter what I do, even switching it with other drives and cables. Oh well, who needs a floppy drive anyway.
A few months go by, and the computer just DIES. Power supply went out. I get a new one that lasts about 2 months before it dies again. I get another new one.
Sometime after the 2nd power supply, my cd-rom drive just stops reading CDs even though it lights up as if it were searching for one. I get a new one of those, and two days ago, the NEW one started doing the same thing the old one did

sounds like youve got bad power coming in. get a ups and an electrician.

the two power supplies died at different places.
first one was at my house
second one was at a friend's small lan party of 4 computers
now I live at a different house, where the new cd-rom drive has died
edit: forgot to mention that since the first supply died, my video card fan has ceased to work, although the card itself still functions correctly.

only thing I can think of is some evil firmware virus that defies all sorts of electrical laws and has the ability to kill a power supply and transfer itself from one device to another
Beyond that, i'd have to say gremlins.

um, power damage, short of a really nasty surge, is cumalative. kinda like skin cancer and uv radiation. if all these parts lived most of thier life in one location, that would be the best guess. im assuming youre not fiddling with the voltage in your comp, of course.
aside from that, im thinking little furry creatures with voracious appetites.

Sounds like power is dirty to me.... maybe static. Whatever it is... sounds like you've had a hell of a time.
