Phone doesn't work with DSL

If this site is not the place for this question , please forgive me. I wonder though if someone there might know the answer to this...
Just got connected with Verizon DSL and it's great but I still have a problem. All three phone filters they sent in my start up package did not work with my phone (a 2.4 ghz cordless Panasonic). When installing each I received no dial tone at all. Now, the other two locations that I need the phone filter is two rooms where there's a DirecTV satellite receiver, so I had installed them. I called Verizon and they said that some cordless phones may not be compatible with a phone filter so I pretty much need to get a new phone. How do I know which phone will be compatible?! I went to Radio Shack and bought their filter but that didn't work either, so I suppose I need to get a new phone and dump this awesome one I have then?!! Has anyone else encountered this with their phone?? And now, when I plug the phone in to use it (without the filter) the DSL disconnects. I thought the DSL was still supposed to work in conjunction with a connected phone (one line)?! For now, I have to unplug the phone to use it. I thought the only purpose for a filter was to make it easier to use the phone (hear more clearly) while being online but I guess it's sending noise or something that the DSL connection doesn't like. So much for being on the internet and receiving phone calls with DSL. Assuming I can correct this problem with the phone shouldn't I be able to stay online and receive phones calls (with one phone line)??
Anyway, I'm real new at this stuff so I'd sure appreciate any advice, thoughts, etc. about this. I'm unsure what move to make now, buy a phone that I hope will work with the filter, or figure something else out.
Thanks a bunch!

yes, you should be able to do both. but there are some problems. first, some phones, like the larger cordless ones, cause some serious problems. if you can use it at all, make sure its plugged in far away from any dsl connection. you might need a lot of filters too.
try a cheap corded phone. if theres no problem then, youll need a new phone. if said cheapie does cause the same problem, you may have a short in a jack somewhere, so both lines are connecting. if youve got someone reasonably handy, unscrew all the jacks from the walls and start isolating them one by one.
