Diablo2 performance problems (GeForce)

Ok here is my problem. I had a voodoo 3 2000 and Diablo2 ran perfect. I got and buy myself a GeForce 2 MX 400 and now it runs like shit. I have tried looking around for help but have yet to find any that works.
I have the newest drivers for my card. I have tried old drivers, but still to no avail. Any help would be great.
I just want to play D2 smooth again.

Unfortunately, your best option is to play in 2d mode. Blizzard refuses to optimize the direct 3d code so that it runs fast on nvidia cards. Even on my geforce 3, diablo 2 D3D performance is subpar at best.

That sucks that it runs bad no matter what you do.
That is a major disappontment.

You can try a few things, like make sure FSAA is disabled, and set all your D3D driver settings to fastest, but that's about it.
