SEATTLE (Reuters) - Linux distributor Red Hat Inc. said on Monday that it had filed a formal complaint against the SCO Group Inc. , which claims that parts of its software code are being used illegally in Linux software.

Raleigh, North Carolina-based Red Hat, a leading distributor of the free Linux operating system, said that it has also put $1 million into a fund it created to cover the legal expenses of other companies developing Linux.

Red Hat said it filed its complaint in federal court in the state of Delaware to stop SCO from making claims that would harm Red Hat's Linux business.

And a PDF of the complaint can be found here.

SCO is simply dead meat now. This has been one of the most interesting business spectacles I've ever witnessed.

I expect the SEC (among others) to eventually bring SCO's executives up on criminal charges.
