Graphics cards

Is the Geforce 4 MX graphics card really not as good as a Geforce 3 card?

Posted by: Null Actor

Yes.

Err... The Geforce 3 is faster than the Geforce 4 MX. MX are budget cards, they are meant to be cheap, and because of that they are not fast.

but they can handle 3-d gaming right?

Posted by: Null Actor

The GF4MX can sort of handle it. But it will be extremely slow for most new games.

bummer...

Your statement is hard to answer because its a split question. The Geforece3 has pixel and vertex shaders, somthing that is necesary for modern 3dgaming (games like UT2003, and Hitman 2). However, the gf4 MX series cards have higher core and memory clock speeds allowing them to have better performance on shader-less games. If you want to have the widest possible range of 3d gaming, get a DX9 compliant card such as the radeon 9500 or 9600 pro. The Geforce FX series cards (aside from the 5900 Ultra) do not perform as well as the radeons and they are much, much louder.
