TOKYO — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd has drawn up a licensing contract with Sony Corp. to manufacture and sell Memory Stick media.
The new contract is on top of an earlier agreement that Samsung and Sony signed in August of 2001 to support the Memory Stick on Samsung products including DVD players, mobile phones, PCs and televisions. While Samsung started to equip the direct connection slot for the Memory Stick in its consumer products and PCs, the company so far has not been making Memory Sticks or selling the media directly.
With this new license, Samsung will begin in-house manufacturing and sales of Memory Stick media from the third quarter of 2003.

I hope that brings their price down. Its pretty rediculous when a 128mb memory stick is $99 and a 256mb Secure Digital card is $65.
