Just bought a DVD player to go with the surround sound system for the living room…rented Battlefield Earth, and Space Cowboys. Well, little did I know the DVD player would make so much of a difference…I am sold on the technology.

So is Battlefield Earth as terrible on DVD as it was in theaters?
~SuperSlinky (newbie scum)

I don't go to theaters..but the movie wasn't that good. The sound and picture quality was phenomenal though

If you want mind-blowing sound, rent Starship Troopers, Armageddon, Top Gun and Days of Thunder

U-571 is excellent for sound too... but you'd better have strong speakers, and be willing to scare the shit out of the neighbors.
Posted by: Lord_Buttplug
Too bad Starship Troopers and U-571 sucked soooooo bad.
Posted by: Chako
Well I have a 350W system...100W sub, front and rear speakers 50W each, center speaker 50W. I don't think I could handle more wattage...the room shakes when I pump up the volume.
I think Matrix would sound sweet. Got Dungeon and Dragon rented for tomorrow...should be interesting.
I must say that DVD in Dolby digital or DTS rocks!
Guess this makes me a convert

LISTEN TO THE WISDOM OF NOVA!!!
Seriously if you rent that movie you'll claw your eyes out while they're still boiling!

LPB, they weren't bad at all
Yeah, i got some top of the line 5 disc panasonic DVD player a few weeks ago, it was free, i'm not gonna explain but it was. I got an S-video cable for better picture and hooked it up, moved a mini system in here with surround, sounds and looks hella good. I wonder what will happen if i put my 400w system down here, right now i think the one down here is maybe 300w? i dunno
i only own 1 DVD so far since i needed to save money, I got T2. I also got some Cowboy Bebop here that I'm borrowing from AK47.
I think i'm gonna buy Gladiator, and the matrix next, maybe Saving Private Ryan, but I have that on VHS

oh gods no DONT RENT D&D IT SUCKS not as sucky as starwars episode1 but its damn close!!
best part of saving private ryan is when tomhanks gets wacked....
ooops

The MATRIX "is" good on DVD .... even if NovaZ didn't like it!

The movie that Tom Hanks "should" have been wacked in was Castaway, Survivor, Stranded on an Island, or whatever the hell the name of that movie was .... cause it stinks! Best part of THAT movie was WILSON!

lol ellen
i knew there was a reason why i didnt go see that movie. when a volleyball is the best part, you have to wonder what tom was thinkin with.

I just watched D&D. It did something that I find totally inexcusable...it insulted my intelligence. The main characters have this bad habit of siting still and not taking the initiative when their lives are in danger...a ploy to perpetuate the plot. Badly written script etc....I concur on this one...although the arrow flying through the room startled me for it sounded exactly like the archery range I like to frequent on occasions.

If you want a good sub flick, get Das Boot. U-571 pales in comparasion.
As for that POS StarShit Troopers, I paid a buck to watch it and damn near got up and left in the first 5 minutes. They sSlaughtered the book sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad it isn't even funny.

one of my favorite movies is still Boondock Saints

<stupidity>Anybody know where I can get a BetaMax drive for my computer?
I heard they were the best thing ever invented, but they got phased out due to marketing.</stupidity>
I couldn't help myself, sorry.

Welcome to OTS.Net, Moogle

D & D is a prime example why Hollywood doesn't make too many fantasy style movies. Sure you can make an AWSOME RPG type adventure movie, but some dope who knows nothing about it ends up writing the storylines and totally fuxOrs it.

Yes, Beta was so much better, but Sony in its infinite wisdom wanted it all to themselves and did not make it into a standard (they wanted big $$$ for licensing). At least Beta would retract the heads when you rewound a tape in the VCR, unlike VHS. Swilo, at least your not looking for an 8 track tape deck for the puter….can we say "chaaaa click clack".

hehe, AK knows about Das Boot, You got the special edition DVD right? well, your dad heheh
i think the FF movie comes out soon

Scary movie 2 on the 4th, Final fantasy on the 11th, and Jurassic Park 3 on the 16th.
I haven't been to 3 movies in one month in YEARS.
I mean YEARS.
10 or 11 at least.

damn man u just now discovered dvd? hehe it is exellend. my brothers dad owns a music recording studio. alot of bands like the gratefuldead(before jerry died) and blues travler go there to record. but the thing is the movie screen they have in there studio.
ok the setting. all sound proof room. we set up the seats in the middle of the room in front of the movie screen like 20 feet tall and 30 wide hehe. ultra surround sound. i mean awesome. we watched jurassic park in there with all the lights out and everything going dude the footsteps shook the entire room and the sound went right into you. it is so cool. awesome place to have partys and stuff meet all the celebs and bands.

o i was gonna say something about dnd hehe but i forgot in the last post. that movie wasnt sooo bad the reason i liked it is cause zoe mclellan hehe. the girl that went with the guys. i had to have been infatuated with her for like a month after that month.
Posted by: Chako
Lets see….last time I went to the movies was 2 or 3 years ago to see the Star Wars trilogy. Before that….. Private Benjamin when it was new! Went to a lot of drive in theaters in the 70’s though…and yes…I miss them dearly.
Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]

I find watching movies an annoying experience. You tend to get people who talk through it, the popcorn and beverages are way over priced (not to mention too salty). I can think of a 100 better ways for an outing. Besides, I much prefer seeing them at home when they come out on video

A DVD player was one of the smartest choices I ever decided to buy. I just love it. Next will be the surround sound system. I have a ton of movies on DVD also. Good move Chako.
As for D&D...
I can't even bring myself to rent that movie. Those type of movies just don't seem to make it that well.
Scary Movie 2 should be good. Final Fantasy looks really good also, and Jurassic Park 3 should be a hell of a lot better than the 2nd one. Jeff Goldblum (aka The Fly) will NOT be in this movie. That is the only reason I think the movie will be ten times better.
Posted by: Swilo
Chako, I'm not looking for an 8track player, I already have one that I can plug into the aux input on ym sound card, I just need some 8tracks to play on it. And the reason everything is so salty in theatres is so you buy more of their overpriced drinks.
Posted by: Gerbilo
hrmmm, backflip, yes, gerbil,.... right
Posted by: AK47
...jeff goldblum was in the first Jurassic Park as well as the second. The second one was just a bad story.
D&D is perhaps one of the worst movies made- god what a waste of tape.
...did I just stick up for Jeff goldblum? dear god
Posted by: Gerbilo
AK, I got the Jeff Goldblum Macho Walk club card lol
and John Madden, and Lee Saito in my other wallet haha
Posted by: Pepsi-Man[OTS]
well thats looks ok i wanna see jurassic park 3 and A.I. and final fantasy is a must see for me since i play them all. i just saw fast and the furious that was one of the best movies i ever saw u had to hod rod around town all night.
Posted by: Gerbilo
i heard the fast and the furious bit ass
