I am working in a office of about 40 machines in a network. Most of the people are just literate abou basic utilities of PC and MS tools. Even though with lot of councelling people are quite aprehensive and possive of their machines and data. Many a times I have use my authority in making them share their hard disks to retirive data. My problem is how to get data from a hard drive from a mahcine in LAN if the disk is not set to sharing. Any amount of lectures in data sharing, globlal phenomenon is not working. It is all falling into deaf ears.My platform is win 2k , while others are mostly win98

now hold on. Are you the network admin in which case you have the right to access everyones files, or are you just a disgruntled co-worker who wants to get some data?

Also, what are you trying to do here? Backup everyones HDs? If you are, i reccomend a program called Retrospect. You can set up a host on a computer somewhere and a client on all the others. Then you can have the host backup all the client machines on a pre-programmed schedule.

If you need to retrieve data, then I suggest you have their computers store the data on a network share that you can read.

Your post doesn't give me confidence that you should be directly connecting to users' data.
