Morrowind win2k pro conflict

I'm having a problem running morrowind on win2k pro. Morrowind ran fine on windows 98 SE so this is not a hardware issue.

When I select play from the morrowind startup menu, it goes into the VGA transition phase(the screen goes black) and then it locks up at that point.

My version of windows 2k pro is the update from win98 se.

I haven't install any windows 2000 pro update packages yet because i don't have internet on my win2000 comp.

Could one of the above be the cause of the problem I'm having?
