Playing MP3's on Media Player

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

When trying to play mp3 files on my media player the speed is way too fast, everything sounds like chipmunks are singing. I have tried going to the enhancements and searching for speed settings but do not have that option. My sound card is intact and all other sounds on computer are fine.

Some more information would be helpful.

What media player software are you using, and what version? Is it Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, WinAmp, etc?

Are the MP3s streaming or are they ones on your harddrive? What bit-rate are they encoded at?

Do other types of audio files play properly in that app? File types to try include .WAVs, .MIDs, and .WMAs(if you have them).

Try getting a different player app, and testing the MP3s in that app if you can.

If you don't already have Windows Media Player 9 Series, go to Microsoft.com or download it here. Next go to View > Enhancements > Show Enhancements and then go to View > Enhancements > Play Speed Settings. Now the Play Speed Settings should be shown as a black space in the video window; make sure Snap slider to common speeds is checked and select Normal to set the speed to normal which is 1.0 (slow is 0.5, fast is 1.4).

Even if you already have Windows Media Player 9, I would suggest either trying to reset it to the defaults (I don't know how to do that off hand) or reinstall.
