weird keyboard problem

I'm trying to work with a server that was just hacked into and trashed (the previous sysadmin never installed any updates), so I'm trying to re-install the OS from a bootable CD. The keyboard will work to let me into the BIOS screen, and I can change BIOS settings, but after that I get a "Boot from CD:" prompt and nothing on the keyboard works. Caps lock/num lock/scroll lock don't even toggle the LEDs, but the keyboard works fine on the BIOS screen. As far as I know, it was working fine before it got hacked. What could be causing this weird problem?

The 1st thing that comes to mind, would be to try another keyboard.
I guess it could be that the set up disc you are using is loading an incompatible keyboard driver.
What OS are you attempting to install?

I've tried multiple PS/2 keyboards. I'll try a USB keyboard to see if that works. And it hasn't gotten as far as loading anything from the CD. The "Boot from CD:" prompt is expecting a "yes", and then it would start booting, but I can't type it. The OS is RedHat 8.0.

If you've tried multiple keyboards, then the keyboard fuse on the motherboard has probably blown.
A USB keyboard would be your quick fix.

Ok, I tried a USB keyboard and that didn't work either. This is really stumping me....
