Direct3d games crashing

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have an athlon xp system with a radeon 9600pro and a 350w power supply, i have the latest ati drivers, directx 9.0b and the latest asus motherboard drivers. Every time i try to run a direct3d game, my computer restarts shortly after starting the game. Needless to say this is a bit of a problem and i would appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Which games are doing this? Has it always done this?

Same kinda issue here.. is the 9600 an AGP 8X card? if so, try using the SMARTGART utility and turn it back to 4X.. it's the only way I can use my 9500 Pro.. if I don't lower that and my AGP aperature to 64 MB, it just freezes on my games.. like War3, Quake3 or 3DMark2001.. maybe it has something against 3's? hehe

try turning your AGP apature size to 2x the amount of memory that you have on your card. Also check your bios and make sure that AGP 8x and AGP Fastwright are enabled. The final thing that you want to do is make sure that the AGP spread spectrum setting is disabled. This should fix your problem, hope it does!

Yeah. also, though, if they are enabled now, you might want to possibly try disabling fastwrites, as they CAN cause systems to crash.

So this problem doesn't happen with OpenGL games?
