Half-Life Error When Installing

Well, im new to these forums, but this is my last resort. i am getting a Shrinker.err when trying to install half-life on windows XP. i am wondering if there is anything out there to fix this. the message goes as follows:
(3.20) <file location of intall here>: Dispature initalisation error 11
please, if anyone has any information, please post here

Installation of half-life does work under all version of Xp, i have tested it myself. Make sure that you are using the origonal cd for the instal, i have encoutered the same error from people who were using copied discs. The other thing that you might want to try is reformating the to which you are intsalling, it has cleared up program install errors in the past. Hope it does not come to that. -Arturo

seriously i have gone out and bought a new hl cd and installed it, it worked there... now there is conflicting refreshrates and stuff... also i cant install any patches because it says "this is not a registered directory" or some bullshit like that.... o well... i just have to wait for my new comp with windows 2000 professional
