Some of my older and kid games ieWolfenstein and wolfenstein SOD , bob the builder randomly shut my computer off. Because they turn my computer off, i have updated virus scann, windows and video card. I have ran a check for 32 worn and installed the patch for it. The computer is clean and so are the games. I have ran the wolfenstein in dos and chaged compatibility (to 95 and 98). I have had them on 2nd drive, fat 32 and the desk top.
short of dual boot can anyone help me, i am told orther can play older game on XP.
My video card is Nvidia tnt 2
AMD athlon XP 220+
1.8 ghz
256 ddram
XP home version 2002
service pk 1

Unfortunantly, compatiblity between XP and DOS based software can be rather spotty. This is, no doubt, at least in part because XP is based on the NT kernel and a full 32-bit OS, where I can't remember if DOS was even fully 16-bit.
However, there could easily be other reasons why you are seeing crashes. My main system is an example of this. I'm running 98, but pretty much can't run DOS based games, either. In my case, the reason is that the MOBO has onboard sound, but I also have an SB PCI 512 sound card in it. The onboard sound is supposed to be disabled, but it still gets detected, and when I try to use DOS SoundBlaster emulation, the system just reboots. Which happens any time I try to run sound in a DOS based game. And trying to disable DOS emulation on the SoundBlaster, and actually use the onbard sound for it works no better. So, I end up with no DOS-based games on that system(mostly cause trying to play the games without sound really sucks). Fortunantly, I do have an older system that still works with them if I ever get in the mode for the older games.
Which leads to a few questions/suggestions:
1. Did you ever have that system running with any of the versions of 98? If so, did those games work?
2. Try disabling sound in the configuration app for some of these games. Don't just turn sound off from within the game, run the config utility and disable it there. If this help, you know its sound card related right there.
3. Have you checked for resource conflicts? In particular, if your sound card is sharing its IRQ with something else, it might cause fits for a DOS game that doesn't understand IRQ sharing. Specifically, check what's running on IRQ 5. Back in the day, that IRQ was almost the exclusive domain of the sound card. I still remember futzing for hours with stupid games that only wanted the sound card on IRQ 5, and sound cards that really wanted to be somewhere else. If something other than a DOS sound emulator is on IRQ 5 thats a definite thing to try changing.
4. I'd suggest trying to get booted into DOS mode by hook or by crook, but I know that's basically gone from XP these days. Personally, I'm sort of surprised that someone hasn't created a good DOS/486 emulator along the lines of the ones like MAME.
I know I probably appear stuck on the sound thing, but resource conflicts are a prime source of those random reboots, and in DOS sound was the biggest source of resource conflicts. Video was rarely the underlying cause of these things, and there ain't that much else going on in DOSland.

yes I recently upgraded my computer with a new mobo (on board sound), New memory and different video card. I was running 98 on my old system. The games ran fine. Wolf full and Wolf SOD in new for me but demos ran fine.

The games do not have a configuration app.

In system info hardware conficts;
I can not find IRQ 5 either I don’t have it or it is not being used. IRQ 22 is being used by standard open HCD USB host controller, and nvidia ® nforce audio codex interface.

I have a dos boot disk and tried to play the wolfensein’s in there no luck.

The computer does not reboot it simply turns off complexly off. The game freezes for 1-5 secs, then off- no warning or any error messages.
