I formatted my hard drive and installed windows xp. now after about 3-5 minutes of use it locks up. I am trying to install the service pack for it but can't get through the install. Please help

system:
900 mgz Thunderbird
256 meg ram
XP

You probably will not have much luck trying to run XP with only 256mb of ram. Another 256mb should help.

Did your system have any problems with your previous OS?

If XP is locking up like that, it's more than likely a hardware problem. I'd double check that your CPU isn't running too hot. Try watching the temperature in the bios, or use any monitoring programs provided by your motherboard maker.

Also, double check that all the fans in your computer are running properly.

Well, I had XP before I formatted the hard drive and it went well. I had 128 megs before I switched out two 256 and it did ok but ran a little slow. Windows finally stopped and gave me a message that one of my installed hardware was causing the error.

I found out that my graphics card is causing my problems. Xp said that the program was running in a continuous loop. I disabled it until I can get a updated driver for it.

I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the fast replies.
