I lost the sound on my Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop when I try to play mp3's or online radio. However, I do get some sound with piano software I have on the system. I have removed the sound drivers and re-loaded them, but it still does not work. I have a NeoMagic sound card. Any idea what to do?

What player/players are you using, and has it worked for playing mp3's and streaming in the past?
Try installing the latest drivers for your sound card, if by

means you reloaded the original drivers.

I installed TDS3 once and lost all my sound, just slowly faded out when in the middle of playing a mp3. I uninstalled it but still the sound wouldn't work, none of it. I finally resorted to System Restore and it worked. I know that isn't an option with 98, but possibly a scanreg /restore might work?
start>run>type scanreg /restore (note the space between scanreg and the slash), press enter, you should now see a list of working registries (working ones will say started next to them), find one before the date of the trouble and click okay, I think you must reboot. Any programs you installed since that date will probably have to be reinstalled, also there are only five registries saved by default so it has been more than five days this won't help.
