Help - phone line vs ISP

I'm in hell. I just moved to a new location within the same city. Qwest really screwed up my phone request - I was told I'd keep the same number; they assigned a new number and I fought them on it; my original phone number will be re-activated. Meanwhile, I have a dial tone on the phone, I can dial out BUT when I try to log on via one of three access lines I get: If you'd like to make a call, please hang up and dial again. If you feel you've reached this recording in error, call your local provider.
Mind you, I get this on two different computers plugged into two different jacks.
I did call Qwest to ask them what was up, they told me to call AOL Tech Support. (I fail to see how AOL could be at fault so I haven't called them.)
What do I do to fix this?
Please help.

aside from a large killing spree?
aol usually needs you to dial in from the numbers you gave them when you signed up. adding the current number might do it. did you move to a new area code?

You know - I really wondered about that. The phone number I have now is still within the same area code HOWEVER, it is different (at least temporarily) than the phone number I used to sign up with AOL. Thinking that was the only logical explanation, I asked my IT guy here in my office and he nixed the idea - said as long as I had a working line, I should be able to get through. I think I'm siding with your line of thought - at least that's the most simple, least costly option therefore, I'll buy it. (Just pray for me.) BTW: did I mention the computers I have are both Macs? (did I just open myself up for a barrage of insults?)
