Problems with file transfers within network under a single router

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Reverend

I have several computers in my network under a single router, which is connected to a dsl modem. Each computer has internet access that works. The problem, however, is that file transfers between computers under the same router are difficult. I can't seem to get the computers to see each other using microsoft's file and print sharing. Even transferring files over AIM usually slows and eventually stops.

Any ideas?

Make sure that all computers on your network are not running any type of software firewall or screening software (such as winXPs ICF) that might be filtering data flow through the computers network interface. Also make sure that all of your computers are on the same domain and workgroup. And all of your computers should also be running win98 or higher as networking between OSes and with OSes under win95 is either dificult or impossible.
