Quake 3

Hey guys and girls.

Ok here's the deal.

I just ordered a new gfx-card and installed it properly. It's a ATI radeon 9600Pro and it worked as soon as I turned on my comp
I got about 2 problems.
The first is that I really can't change the resolution. I can use only 2 modes. The one I had before I change the gfx-card, 1024x768, and another one, 800x600. That was my first problem. I think that there would be like more options so I wondered if I installed it correctly.

The other question is about Quake3. I play a mod for that game alot called reactionquake3. The frames per second is to low for what I think should be alright with this new card. I use a max of 125 fps, but still It won't be able to come up to even that. Some guy said to me that it was beacuse I probably had a thing called "vsync" turned on in my grafix-settings. Is that correct or did he just talk jibberish and if it is true, where can I change it. I run XP.

Thanks on forehand for the help.

Regards, Tom Prestgaard

Did you install the drivers for the new card? If so did you uninstall the drivers for the previous card before putting the new card in?

Are you getting 60 (or whatever you have your monitors refresh rate set to) fps in Quake 3? If so then vsync is likely the problem. In the game go to Setup, then Game Options and check to see if "sync every frame" is on or off, you'll want it off. There may be a setting in your video drivers that will control that as well but I don't have an ATI card to check that.

No I tried everything. I turned off vsync both ingame and on the videosettings for the card...
The first time I installed the driver I did not remove the old ones (which was a nvidia-card) but then I upgraded the driver for the radeon card and then I noticed I was supposed to do that so I removed both nvidia and radeon drivers and the installed the new radeondriver. Should that make any difference?

Well I'm about to format my comp to try make it right from the beginning. I wish myself goodluck

Over and out

To reformat yet, if its not to late. Try using a diferent video mode and make sure that you are running the latest patches. Sometimes card incompatablilities pop-up within certain games and programs but most problems are usually fixed in the latest patch.
