Give us a complete rundown on how it is, JANNA ... planning to buy it, but I don't wana spend any more money than I need to if it's not gonna be THAT good .. already bought BG2 TOB and I wanna play it too, hehe

Yeah, I ordered it about a week ago, and they tell me I should get it this Friday. Can't wait. 800x600 should be sweet.

Picked up my copy of the expansion pack today, and so far, it's worth every penny. The new character classes are amazing. The graphics look better. The new deal with hirelings is great -- you can equip them, they gain exp and level on their own, you can heal them at wells and with potions.. you can even ressurect them.
I'm still getting used to the new item classes, but the socketed armor is really useful. Haven't seen any new set items yet, but hey, I haven't played that much yet. Charms are a really cool addition -- you just have to have them in your inventory to gain their bonuses (meaning you could potentially go into battle against a big boss with your inventory full of bonus-giving charms). There's a one-handed weapon for sorceresses now, and lots more class-specific items.
Switching out weapons is great.. you can have two sets of weapons/shields equipped and with one click change from one to the other.
Act 5 is huge. Gotta get back to playing it, if I can wrestle the keyboard and mouse on the applicable computer from my b/f's hands.

the main benefit i see is the 800x600 res which should have been in the original diablo2 to begin with. the art was made for 800X600 the entire game just looks better at that res. but with all things blizzard as time goes on the nerfings get larger. while blizz introduced casting delays for all classes to one extent or another they also claim to have increase the power of the spells that got nerfed. well they did... my firewall sell gained a whle 2-3 points on the upper end for damage. thats about as useful as giving a eskimo an ice maker. they severely decreased the range that static field works. and for higher difficulty levels set a hug limit on how much it would actually damage monsters. this makes killing the triple resist and some immune monsters nearly impossible especially since the run speed was severely nerfed. but overall D2X is what D2 should have been. althought hey did increase the stash size there is still a limit on how much gold u can have in ur inventory. considering the worthlessness of gold in D2 this is kind of silly. the sorceress teleport spell is now useful since it is possible to teleport a useful distance away from monsters to actually return fire.
i cant comment on the other classes since all i pay is the sorceress
the entire act is almost as big as act 1 and is what act4 was supposed to be in the original game. to make it they just re-used the other maps and took no real thought into layout. it is pretty much straight forward and will be a royal pain to any class that doesnt have some form of teleport skill. the new monsters are pretty tough. i would hate to be anything but a sorceress or amazon fighting the imps. the imps have a teleport spell and they use it a LOT. anyone without a ranged attack is going to have a very tough time with them. think mini-advocates from D1.
their *de-formable* terrain isnt really that all they did was make two new monster types "doors" and "barracades" and set them to be non-moving the imps can use barracades to launch extremely long range attacks from great distances across the map. the actual new monster types are very cool looking and there is one that does a dual wield attack much like the barbarian. there is another type kinda like a harpy that has a wicked curse that drains ur life if u damage a monster while under its effect. it does not take long at all to get to 1 life with those things around even in normal diff. there does appear to be a problem of some sort with resistance in the latest patch since even in normal with 75% resist all i seem to take a huge amount of damage from spells that should have little effect every now and then.
overall is it worth buying?? yes and no. i bought it because i wanted something else to play when i just dont feel like playing online and want to play something brainless. if u have other games u play more than D2 then wait till u get bored. i dont play online with D2 but the with the advent of not being able to gamble for uniques and set items it really detracts a lot from the game. the new items that i have found are nearly useless just like original D the same item drop problems exist i find tons and tons and tons of items for the other classes but so far have found one sorceress specific item of vigor *sigh* the main problem i have with D2 and D2x both is blizzards desire to see everyone play multi. it really detracts from the fun factor of the game. especially since it makes it nearly impossible for pure players to get decent items to fit their characters because to get those u have to trade with some one else and end up receiving duped items.
all this makes diablo2 both irritating and compelling since it is so very close to actually being a good game it gives me the feel that just ONE more patch and it will all be back to being fun again. but blizzard still is determined to make possibly one of the best games ever made into daikatana2. they are headed that way if they keep on this trend of making everyone party regardless of play styles.
overall tho if u liked D2 u will like the expansion since it brings the game graphically back to what it should have been

can anyone that has the D2x ( even if u dotn get online) get online really quik just with an old acc or somthin and tell me the channel names for d2x??? cuase according to blizz they will have a standard pic liek there is for Sc and D1 and Warcraft..... and i wanna see what it looks liek b4 i go D2x crazy hehee.....

I find it funny that I like Baldur's Gate 2 significantly better than Diablo 2, when I liked Diablo significantly more than Baldur's Gate... but following in that vein, I'll be playing Throne of Bhaal and Baldur's Gate 2 instead of D2X. I had the beta, it didn't impress me.
BG2 on the other hand, is fun for more reasons than I can possibly name.

The D2X channels are Lord of Destruction USA-#.

Well I got the expansion tonight. All I can say is this…love the wolves.
Posted by: Canis Lupus
Okay, since I can't play AO, I'll be on bnet (USWest) levelling my Druid (Crinos-Lupus) in D2x ... if anyone wants to join, the game will be:
laggy/wolfman
I'm currently at level 9, so don't show up with a level 50 character and make things hard for me, hehehe
Posted by: MK
If I had it I'd be there, but I only have d2...and am not buying the expansion
Posted by: Canis Lupus
Well Chako, at least we got to play almost 4 hours before bnet reared its ugly head again, hehehe ...
Thanks for the game ... maybe we'll try again later or tomorrow
Posted by: Chako
You got it…it was fun till it lasted.

I got my Druid to level 25 last night ... he's *****ing fast when he shapeshifts to Werewolf, and has three Dires to help him out (enhanced by Heart of the Wolverine) ... Right now he can take some punishment in Act 4, but I dunno if he's gonna be potent in Act 5 ... any tips for a levelling Druid?
I got the following skill point assignments:
Werewolf (18)
Lycanthropy (1)
Oak Spirit (1) - coz it's a pre-requisite
Heart of the Wolverine (1)
Summon Dire Wolf (3)
Summon Spirit Wolf (1) - coz it's a pre-requisite
Summon Raven (1) - coz it's a pre-requisite
Feral Rage (2)

Grrrr…can’t go back and finish the Cain quest in Act 1. Now, every time I want Cain to ID stuff for me, he charges big bucks to do it….

I love all the new features with the new version too. but there are
too many friggin bugs. I cannot even use my best character
because it looks up my system. The only way I can get it to work is update with the pacth and then copy over the original MPQ file over the updated file. I had a mid level character and the update made me remove all the cool armor and rings I gave her because they changed the level requirements. WHAT A BUNCH OF BS!!!

It's the blizzard way!
Posted by: Canis Lupus
Yeah, lotsa pretty annoying changes with the latest patch ... it's forcing everyone to change their respective strategies, and rendering most skills almost ineffective ...
I got a barbarian in USWest which I haven't used since I temporarily quit D2 last Christmas. He's level 15 and I have to totally change his style coz his skill assignments are now whacked out. So I just decided to start a druid and begin playing it from scratch
Nice image btw! Might have to steal that and make it my desktop or avatar, hehehe

Ack, I spent several hours bringing a Druid up to lvl 18 in USWest. I log out for a break, then go back in after 30 minutes to find out my health was down to zero, and I lost all my stuff!!! I think I won't be playing Bnet too much...not with this kind of bug around. What is the point of collecting good items if Bnet will just take em away...

Open Battle.net!
Posted by: Chako
Got a point...but this does seem like a serious bug. I lost lots of good stuff in this wacky error...good thing I am not all that attached to my characters, for I think I might a cried otherwise.

Well, finished Hell and killed Diablo The brute always killed my dire wolves with his fire ring ... in ONE wave! Jeeez...
Now I'm on Harrogath in Act 5 ... now at level 28 and enjoying so far...
Here's a screenie of my stats after killing Diablo ... if you think the stats are too high, that's coz I'm using a rare ancient sword given by Xon, hehehe ... 119% attack rating, plus the werewolf bonus and others

well last nite i went into nitemare act5 solo i dont play on bnet with D2 because bnet doesnt work and i dont want to lose all my vigor items that i struggled so hard to get. but i went to fight the ancients and if u havent fought em solo this is probably the single hardest quest for a solo character. i started out fresh just leveled up to 47 so i wouldnt lose xp (which i think is the absolute lamest thing i have ever seen in a game) i had 250,000 gold and a barbarian for cannon fodder (barbarians are kinda like midevil marines not too bright and willing to catch lots of bullets) so i get up to the ancients who start off as statues until u click the alter then they all give a speech jump off their pedastals and commence their attack. my trusty barbarian marine lasted oooohhhhh about 1.5 seconds dying to a leap attack a whirlwind and a twin axe toss. i had about another 2 seconds before my first dirt nap. it costs 31000 gold to res my trusty marine which i do 2 more times along with myself. i then procceed to die another 8 times before tryingt o use the barbarian fodder again and spend another 190000 gold resurrecting him multiple times until i eventuall get the hang of dodging the flying axes the leap attacks and the lame whirlwind. eventually 2 hours later defeating the 3 ancients in nitemare solo. the quest reward then takes me from level 48 to level 52 with my enough XP to get halfway to level 53. the only reason i was able to defeat all three was due to the firewalk spell. blizz really needs to tone some of this down for single play heh. im not looking forward to this fight in hell diff. i like a game being hard but this was ridiculous. they were too easy in normal and nitemare is almost impossible. i really doubt a amazon or necro druid or assassin would be able to beat them solo in nitemare or hell diff.

Well, all I wanted tonight was to get to the last waypoint and call it a day ... but I decided "what the heck" and just try to beat Baal tonight, which I did about one-and-a-half hours later, hehehe...
It's pretty tough coz I had no offensive spells on my druid (designed him to be a bruiser, not a mage), so I had to make do with up-close melee... But FURY rules! Hehehe ... level 4 fury (5 attacks), plus a level 20 werewolf skill was all it took (of course, the *****in ancient sword helped a lot - thanks Xon) ... the dire wolves, barb spirit and the lackey were no use - all died in Baal's initial salvo, hehehe. so I had to make two trips back to town to recharge... All in all, it was fun! Now I'll try my luck in Nightmare...
Final Stats in Normal Difficulty
Great sword, and now it's mine! Hehehe
Posted by: Chako
I just beat Baal using my lvl 28 Assassin. I poured all my skill points into traps..and I tell you...she rocks! Baal was actually easy with all the traps I laid about him. Great add on...lots of fun...Act 5 took ages to complete.

Hey Chako, how about a game! I am just starting nightmare Act 1 ... I can use a teammate
I'm gonna be playing in 20 minutes (just got back from a J-4th party) ... if you wanna play, join me at crinos/lupus at USWest
Everyone else is welcome to join ... it's gonna be a nightmare game with my lvl 35 druid

what i dont understand is why blizz wont let us port characters onto realms its not like there isnt already a massive amount of cheating for ladder and duping abounds.
but i would play laggy but im not about to restrict myself to online only for D2 heh not with bnet in the unplayable state its in. dont feel like losing all my gear or my character to a another bnet server crash. but if u guys have any open characters i have a level 17 assasin and a level 55 sorceress.
Posted by: Outlaw
I think this "bnet is so bad" stuff is pretty much bullshit, I've been playing on bnet for months now and I NEVER lost my gear.
I admit that the lag was sometimes unbearable but when the x-pack was out, my lag has been much less (allmost nothing now) and even that 1000 ppl waiting line when creating a game in the weekends is gone now.
if I play for a whole day, I get a disconnection error 1 or 2 times but I can live with that.
I play on the europe realm, dunno how the others are but I doubt there's a big difference.
Posted by: JANNA
sorry but it isnt BS i lost a level 76 sorceress which i had to redo and bnet didnt register after that that i had completed the original game and could not play HC. i then got a HC sorceress to level 45 and bnet ate all her gear during a crash of bnet. then i tried playing a barbarian on bnet got to level 50 or so and he got wiped by bnet also. there are a lot of people that this happens to. so im kinda sick of having to start over from scratch each time the lazy programers at blizz start dloading porn.
Posted by: Outlaw
I'm not saying there are no problems with bnet, but its definitly not unplayable, things have gotten much better after the realm upgrades. I'm sure there are still people who will lose their stuff again, but blaming blizzard for everything isnt gonna help. Its not like they're not trying to make it as good as they can.
Posted by: Chako
Sorry Laggy, the Assassin was in single play. I don't think I will play much Bnet after it ate all my gear.
