Ok... I've tried Dell Tech Support... they didn't help and now I've found this forum.. (the comp's a Dell Dimension 4400)
Frequently Windows won't recognize either one or both of my disk drives where I will need to turn my comp off and restart in order to have a chance at Windows recognizing either drive, when I got the comp in Jan/02 I installed my CD-R, so there's no conflicting hardware problems. I've checked my BIOS, it's fine, I've switched my IDE cable, it's fine, I've run multiple virus checks w/ multiple virus scanners, nothing, I've checked the drivers, they're fine.. but still Windows will quite often not recognize either or both drives, restarting doesn't work, I need to shut down, after them working fine for a while, they'll suddenly not be recognized.. the only thing I could think of is the motherboard being bad, but I don't think that's it..
Any help would be greatly appreciated

that is a problem on occasion. look for a bios update for your board and firmware updates for the drives.

you will find updates on the sites of the manufacturers of the board/drives.
