EBAY? oh boy!

(things to think about while I go play with the remote on my new bed)

I have secretly for a couple of years now, wanted to buy something on EBay. Something Big. I have heard all the pros and cons about what could happen. Collected worse case scenarios and best case scenarios. (both of which I believe are written by the manufacturers themselves or their online competitors. )I have read the product reviews by happy and disgruntled shoppers in every catagory save exercise equipement.

The opportunity to fulfill a fantasy opened up for me a couple of months ago when I came into some money. Not a lot of money but more money than I had available ever. (you know you have money when you get a card from your banker thanking you for opening your account and its hand signed.)

Problem is, I am not supposed to have money. For one thing I am a musician and they never have any money, so having money is bad for my starving artist image. Second thing is I am on some pretty serious government help with my medical problems and they don't like you to have money either. So I had to spend it and spend it fast. For those republicans who read this, I am not taking advantage of the government in any way, in fact it was the government who ordered me to spend my money. go figure.

I have always wanted an electric adjustable king size dual massage bed and went to ebay and bought one. I went into the auction area, did all the signing up and stuff you have to do and looked around for a bed...there were two current in auction one was a queen size and another was a straight king size bed (barely used). Barely used in hospital bed lingo means they finally got a bed then died in it. So I passed on that one.

I also found out they have online stores on ebay something I didn't know about. So I surfed my bones into the online bed shop and found the right be for me.... Dual king size electric adjustable bed w/massage, plus two sets of sheets, two pillows, and free shipping. Damn that does sound like a deal. So I bought it.

They wanted my credit card number and I didnt want to give that out so I asked about options. Well, they said, you can do PayPal or send us a cashiers check. I opted for the Cashier Check since I am still boycotting PayPal over my account with DOAC. I called the guy by phone to make sure that what I was buying with my check was what I was going to receive. He said no prob. I sent my check along with a written transcript of what I understood was to go down. I kept a copy and I advise anyone who buys online to keep all phone numbers, ask for names, addresses, and next of kin of all vendors or manufacturers.

The ad said allow 6-8 weeks for delivery so I sent my check. prayed. and waited. Two weeks later I get a call from margie from someplace in north carolina saying that the truck had come and picked up my bed. Hallelujuh!!! I thought. Three weeks later, the trucker calls and says has broke down in Idaho but is sending their other truck up there to get the rest of the beds on the trailer. Okay. I said. How long? Two weeks max we will call you should be there by august 28 no prob.

August 27 I get a call from my trucker who says he is in kansas and will be in later that night and would I be home. I don't have any social life at the moment so I said yes I would be. He said look for an 18 wheeler with a red cab pulling down my street. I said okay. At 8 I hear a honk outside and its my trucker with my bed...It was quite the race who got to my porch first, my two next door neighbors or the trucker. Its a narrow street and he was blocking both driveways...I got it all straightened out by offering to let my neighbors test drive the bed functions when it was set up.

It was tricky at first since they didn't seem to have all the parts or the bed that I ordered. I went back to my copies of all my notes and stuff and show it to them. especially the part about free shipping. and after a few queasy moments where I actually felt like I had been taken by some online con man, everything came together and I got almost exactly what I wanted. What I didnt get was the sheets and pillows. The Trucker said we don't do sheets or pillows. So I went back to Ebay and to the store and wrote them that I loved the bed but the sheets and pillows are still forthcoming and when I get them I will consider the transaction sucessfull. So stay tuned on whether my quest for sheets and pillows is a sucessfull one.

In the meantime, the bed is great!!! It goes up and down head and legs, and has a 60 minute massage function that is my daily delight. The beds are on rollers so I pull them apart to make the bed, one of the big baddies I hated about most king size beds...everything is relaxomatic and plush. I love my bed... now if I could just get those pillows and sheets...
