I think I may have fried my motherboard (or video card). I went in to see what kind of video card I had, i touched it, and i closed it up. When I start my computer, It beeps three times (long short short) and pauses, and then two more short pauses. Just a blank screen. I'm using an INTEL motherboard. CAn someone help me out??

http://www.hi-tech.net/zones/help-beep.html thats a site that tells what the beeps mean. Im not sure what BIOS i have. I think its Award BIOS, so that means its a video card error. Did I fry my video card or is it just not plugged in right?

Ah, solved my own problem. I must've wiggled my card around a little bit or something, it wasnt completely plugged in. I took it out and put it back in and everything was fine. Too bad it wasnt fried. I need an excuse for a new video card. But also, I'm looking for a new video card. I want a powerful gaming one to replace my ATI RAGE 128 PRO. I think I need a new one because when I run UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2003, I meet all the system requirements and reccomendations (or surpass them) except for the video card. I turn all the detail settings to LOW and run teh game in 600x400, and it still lags. If its my video card, what card would you reccomend in the 50 - 150 price range? If its not the video card what is it? thanks

you should never open and touch anything in a pc without being grounded...it's amazing what a little bit of static will do....
do you know what motherboard you have to confirm the bios? different beeps from different bios's mean different things

The video card is probably not seated right. If you take it out and put it back in again, it'll probably work. Try to push it down as straight as you can.

Also check if the monitor cable is still connected.

Edit: Oh...

What do you mean by being grounded?

Posted by: syber

the best way is with a wrist strap attached to the chasis of the case...or you can touch the chasis before touching anything electronic in the pc

and about a new video card... I can't decide over either a XFX Geforce4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR TV Out Video Card ($110) or a ATI Radeon 9600 256MB W/TV&DVI&2H AGP Video Card Bulk ($133). The Radeon has twice as much memory for only 30 dollars more. What do you think?

Go with the Radeon.

i would stay away from the gf, its too far behind the curve and doesnt support directx 9.

any of the higher radeon pro will do nicely.
