Uhh... guys, I think you might want to be a little less trigger-happy in the pirate labeleing and the thread closing department. If you look at what he asked, he never said that he was looking for a pirated cd key, but only that he couldn't find his own. If this were taken to it's logical conclusion, he is probably NOT a pirate because he didn't go straight to the internet and get a pirated key. While what he wanted to do might have been illigal, I think it would be best to offer more helpful advice, such as telling him that, if he ever registered his copy with blizzard, they would be able to give him his key if he contacted them.
Either that, or be a little bit nicer when you close the thread,
Now, in the case of REAL pirates (such as "help! I downloaded Quake 3 and it's a .ISO! What's that?") You have my whole-hearted support.

so he wants to know where his cd key is stored in his registry from his previous installation?
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Battle.net is a good start
i think closing the thread was fine (i didnt see it though) the only legal way we could help him if what he said was true would be to buy a key and give it to him, we cant give him serials, we cant give him cracks. and i think its unlikely hes unwilling to pay 10$ for a game hes paid for b4. sounds like a noobie kazaa downloader to me. and if hes trying to install the game, and its legal, HE WOULD HAVE THE CD, and the cd case has the key on the back bottom left of it.
it doesnt say hes looking everywhere for HIS cd key. or hes looking NOT on the net. doesnt mention anything about even purchasing it.
just look in your old hardrive for where you installed it b4. 
no reason for bnet to get lag from all those extra people who never bought the game. 10$ man. its worth 10$
