I was on the internet and a dialogue box appeared on my screen stating it was from microsoft and told a virus W32 RPC has been detected. Is this a real message from mirosoft? I did a virus scan no virus appeared. How do I stop this message from poping up? I have updated all security and critical patches from microsoft website.

are you sure it wasnt just a popup? they do make that kind. did it tell you to click here, or go somewhere? it could also be the evil messenger service, but that has to be actually sent to you. that can be disabled.

yes, it asked me to accept the virus and have it auotmatically deleted, Or if i want to ignore hit cancel. I have sgned up for the microsoft newsletter in which the contact me via emails with any hoaxes and I haven't received any as of today.

well, if you can be online for over 5 minutes without getting an RPC error, it's a hoax. However, if you really do have it, go to securityresponse.symantec.com and get the removal tool.

if it asks you for any kind of response, ignore it. its a popup.
