Games freeze!

Just built myself a new computer. I am pretty new to this kind of thing but got through it relatively unscathed! Trouble is, now it's built and up-and-running, I am having problems. I have Windows XP Pro, and whenever I play a game (PC Built for games) the graphics freeze completely after a short while playing. This has happened on Unreal Tournament 2003 and Neverwinter Nights so far, several times on each. I cannot do anything other than reset my PC. I have the latest PNY 5900 FX graphics card, 1GB memory, Audigy 2 soundcard, Athlon XP 3000+, and a case with LOADS of fans. Only have a 2 year old 300w PSU though?! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I just want to play games!!!!!

Well, since you obviously do not believe it to be an overheating issue, I do suppose it is possible (as you implied) that your power supply isn't cutting it. I don't know the total (or individual) power requirements for your hardware, but, you are running some high-end equipment with a power supply that I wouldn't want to use on half the system.
So, you might want to look into that.
The fact that the problem is inherent, immediately after the build of the computer, strongly suggests hardware problems: in this case maybe the power supply. I suppose it could also be a faulty RAM module, or any number of other things. But check on that power supply.

Just because you have loads of fans doesn't mean your computer is running cool enough. Do you have some kind of hardware monitor program that will let you check the temperature of your processor?

how long can you play a game? if it actually loads and starts playing, its probably not the power supply, although that could be larger. what kind of heatsink and thermal paste did you use, and what was your method of application?
