Diablo 2 LOD tcp/ip HELP !

My friend and I have been trying to connect via TCP/IP, and have been unsuccessful. The only time I have been able to connect to TCP/IP in Diablo II was when we still using 56k modem; I presently have a DSL connection , and he had DSL also.
We have tried using the IP address that Diablo II says, the IP address that my DSL information gives, and my IP gateway address, also the external IP adress tat i got it from here http://www.showmyip.com/ and none have worked. What is going on ? and yes i'm behind router.
Any help would be nice. please help

You'll need to open ports on your router in order to be able to play. port 4000 and 6112 - 6119 have to be opened to both TCP and UDP traffic.

mine ip is 192.168.1.100 , so whats port 4000 ?and how can i cchange tat ? sorry i'm noob  .

6112 - 6119 so i put this number in the fowarding which open port 4000 ?
