While browsing online, I repeatedly get an error message as follows: "lexplorer has caused an error in mshtml.dll" I have tried updating the explorer and replacing the dll file. neither of these has worked. I have also ran several virus scans on both files and a complete scan. No viruses showed up. any help will be greatly appreciated. Operating system is windows ME.

Have you tried repairing Internet Explorer? Highlight Internet Explorer in add/remove programs, click add/remove button, put a radial in the repair option, click okay (or apply).

Do this after you have closed all running programs and disabled your antivirus, also empty your temporary internet files and your Temp folder (C:\Windows\Temp), don't delete the whole folder, get inside and go to the edit menu>select all>file menu>delete. If you get the message a file cannot be deleted, move on to the next until you have deleted all that can be deleted, then try the repair.

What version of I.E are you running and do you use Gator?

I have the same problem, same error message and everything, but internet explorer does not show up on my add/remove programs list. i regularly empty my temporary internet files, but my computer most likely has a few viruses because i have no anti-virus program on this computer. (i got it third-hand) any suggestions besides "buy a new computer"? i'm also on the ME operating system

Both of you should check out this article from microsoft:

Hope that helps.

(also DCDamio mentioned you don't have an antivirus. You can scan online for free at www.pandasoftware.com or download a free virus scan program at www.grisoft.com )
