XP a Problem For Hardware Buffs

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

CNet is reporting that Microsoft's new product activation may cause large amounts of trouble for those who upgrade often. Here's a snip:

The company's new product-activation technology, which locks Office XP or Windows XP to a particular PC hardware configuration, can deactivate unexpectedly, rendering the software useless until a code number is obtained from Microsoft. The feature could present the biggest headache to people that frequently upgrade or change components on their PCs.

This could also be a problem for hardware sites who review products often. Read the full story here. Thanks go to Ace's Hardware.

Just the feature to make me never buy windows XP. Who is Microsoft kidding with this stupid technology. Are they willing to chase many of their customers away with some weird problematic protection feature? I upgrade frequently...who doesn't other then office people stuck with the company hardware on their desk!

I hate inputting key codes from games I have purchased, let alone calling Mickeysoft every time I change a video card, or reformat the HDs, for a blinking 44 number code to reactivate software I have already purchased. 44 number code...I think they are going out of their way to make this process tedious and annoying to their users.

P.s. Anyone remember those awful protection wheels game companies used to use in the past. I think Mickeysoft's protection feature is far worse!

hey now us tech folk that install office apps on office comps dont like that crap either. heh im not about to move to or recomend a move for us to XP just because of the amount of work that will create for me. perhaps if i EVER get caught up and need something to do ill move us to XP but i doubt that will ever happen. XP is a pain to install and maintain and reminds me of the days of DOS which i am glad are dying.
