i have just bought and setup a new pc. it is running windows xp home, and as soon as you log on to the internet, it forces the computer to shutdown. a message pops up saying nt authority error, and also says the rcp remote call procedure has unexpectedly terminated. as a relative pc amateur, could someone please help me fix this problem so i can use the internet? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start Here.

To stay on line long enough to get patched up and clean, go to Start, Control Panel, network connections, then right click on your internet connection to view it's properties, click the advanced tab and then check the internet connection firewall box.

cheers nocode for the reply. what do you do with the firewall, disable it? enable a longer connection at expence of safety?

You need to Enable it, so that hopefully, it will allow you to stay online long enough to download all of the microsoft updates, and the worm removal tool.
