Can't host games?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: head

Hi Im currently on wireless router and that craps cuz I can't host any games.

I don't have any idea what DMZ is or opening ports 6112 - 6119.

Please advise. thanks

It's the wireless router, I have the same problem. You need to be on a computer connected directly to the modem with no router or gateway, and if you have those i believe there are some ports you can open, depending on the game.

What kind of wireless router are you using? Tell us the brand name and model number and we'll probably be able to walk you through opening the correct ports on your router to allow you to host games.

I'm using a NETGEAR CABLE/DSL Wireless Router Model MR301 (802.11b)

The current wireless adapter I am using is Netgear Wireless Adapter Model MA301.

Oh BTW, how can i use my wireless router to set up LAN games?

Posted by: head

can someone pls help me?

I'm using the basic Cable/DSL Netgear router, so i'm going to assume the setup is similar.

To login to your router, go to http://192.168.0.1 with a web browser. It will ask you for login information, which defaults to "admin"/"password". If you haven't set up a password, do so under Maintenance > Set Password. Set up the port forwarding by going under Advanced > Port Forwarding > click the "Add Custom Service" button.

Name: Warcraft III
Starting port: 6112
Ending port: 6119
Server: Your computer's IP address.

If you haven't set up your router, the last is probably dynamic. I recommend going to Advanced > LAN IP Setup > Add under "Address Reservation". Choose your computer. Now, enter that IP for the server.

To use the DMZ (your computer is not protected by the router's firewall), use the same IP under Advanced > WAN IP Setup > Default DMZ Server.

how do i find out my ip address? i've used ipconfig and stuff like that but my ip still shows as 192.168.0.1

Posted by: TotalRecall

The IP address that is asking for is just the local one, which looks to be set to 192.168.0.1 in your case.

You can see your router's outside IP address by going to Maintenance > Router Status, or using a website like http://www.whatismyip.com

Mine's probably a different version

When I log on to 192.168.0.1

I go to 'Advanced' --> "Ports"

I get 'Default DMZ Server' : 0.0.0.0

# Start Port End Port Server Address
1 6112 6119 My IP
2 0 0 0.0.0.0
3 0 0 0.0.0.0
4 0 0 0.0.0.0
5 0 0 0.0.0.0

I've tried to host games on b.net but it still doesn't work.

Check this website out:

They're using a different router, but it might solve the problem.

I have the same problem, but i do not know what brand it is. I want to try TotalRecall's method, but I got stuck where he said Maintenance. I can't find that anywhere. Is it suppsoed to be with some software that came with the router? My dad says taht there was no software that came with teh router. Please help ASAP. Thx.

EDIT: I found out my product, Netgear Cable/DSL 54Mbps Wireless Router.

EDIT EDIT: Got it, the maintenance was after you logged in.
