Alight no ones been able to figure this out so I turn to you for help. My computer has this problem where my screen just goes black and my computer "freezes" maybe because once it does that you cant do anything about it but restart the computer. The light on the monitor is still green like its good to go but you can't do anything! It's REALLY pissing me off because I tried to talk to Dell tech support(yes go ahead and laugh) and they were worthless. I would relaly appreciate any help.

Uh... that is my friend. He hijacked my account.

Anyways, to elaborate....

He JUST bought a new dell (dimensions 2400 or somethin). P4, 2.4ghz, 512mb ddr.. XP home.

He installed a few programs right when got the machine. Kazaa, some espn bottom line thing and a few other things. Pretty much since then, his machine has been randomly crashing. Like he said- screen goes black and he has to manually reboot the system.

I told him to uninstall all the shit that he installed... he did. Yet he still has this problem.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

He told me he got the blaster worm so I had him patch his machine. That shouldnt be causing it. what else could it be?

In my opinion, the first thing that should be done is download any critical updates and service packs from Windows Update and update the antivirus. Do a complete virus check and if it is clean then we move forward with diagnosing the problem.

if he had kazaa on there, everything under the sun could be on that hard drive. after patching windows and ie, run ONLINE virus and trojan scans. the have him grab spybot and run that too. hell need to do a scandisk and defrag after all that.

if its still recurring post cleaning, stick it in the hardware forum.
