Adaware 6.181

I've been having problems with spyware on my computer lately, and by redwench's suggestion I went and downloaded, isntalled, and ran Spybot. This got rid of most of them, but still the random and FREQUENT popups still occur.
So, my next choice is to run adware which picked up EVERYTHING that Spybot missed. But unfortunately, when it gets to the screen displaying all of the spyware, clicking "next" to remove just makes the application freeze with the "next" button pushed down ....
Anyone know how to fix this or find an earlier version of adware?

oh wait
I copied the Adaware directory from my laptop (which was runnign 6.162) and now it works like a charm.

dont forget to use the immunize function on spybot. the spyware blaster works nice too.

Argh. After all the removing I just did, I'm still getting 8 popups within 10 minutes.
Adaware alerted me of two running processes IN SAFE MODE, but never told me what they were....Any other anti-spyware utilities?

Are these Windows Messenger pop ups?
If so, Shootthemessenger, available at the grc.com website might take care of the problem.
The Windows Messenger is a fairly recently exploited pathway for ads and other annoying pop up messages.
There is a program called CWShredder (or similar) that can take of one particular nasty that neither SSD nor AdAware seem to be able to handle, yet.

You could also simply manually disable Messenger Services via Manage...

No.
IE popups.

get a popup stopper. not all popups are from spyware.

What recommendations would you make? (4 popups within the time it took to type the pre--6 rather)
