i have a cable internet connection and it seams to bet going carzy. a lot of the time now when ever i try to get on the internet my browser will not find any of the servers and acts like it is not connected to the internet (just searches and searches). and when it does connect it is very slow now. the cable modem is connected to my netgear router and from there to the different computers in my house and the problem effects every computer. the modem is good cuse the lights on it are lit up saying it is connected. i can get it to work some times when i got to ftp://192.168.0.1 and start playing around just clicking on every button just getting it active and then my internet will work some but then it will die again if i use the internet to much or to much time goes by. and then it also works at random times. the network is always working but not the internet. also i can be connected to kazaa or aim and get no websites found but still be on the internet.
any ideas?

thanks a lot for anything

you probably have one of the latest viruses (i dont remeber the name) but what it does is block up the internet port on your router and modem in its effort to infect Micrsofot's servers. To remove the virus, disable sys restore and run Norton Antivirus 2004.

Is your cable modem a dual or 2-way modem?
Usually when you have 4 solid lights on the modem with a flashing pc activity the modem is on-line. However with the router in between may be loosing your ip through your router, try to reboot router.
Another idea see if you run the pc straight to the modem if you notice the same problem? It could be ethernet related.

If your modem is 1-way (upstream over telephone down over cable), you may have another type of issue.

well i checked for viruses and deleted a few but i dont think that was the problem cuse it still does it. my modem is prob a 2 way cuse i kno no phone is involved and its been working for the past 2-3 years fine but now some problems r coming up.
thx for any help

Well, if it's Comcast Cable, then it might be the services fault. Lately I have been experiencing temporary interruptions in service. Just a thought.

I'm a comcast user too and they've been messin' up for three weeks now ... I get several service interruptions each day and they always say there is no outage in my area when I call them up ...
