Aim...Ugh...

There I am listening to some music and browsing some forums, which have no advertisements. When all of a sudden I hear the old intro to the $6 million man(or whatever that show was called). Im looking all over trying to figure out where its coming from. Then I found it.
An Audio/Video advertisement on my Aim Buddy List. That damn Aol 8.0 commercial from TV. Aim just got lame

no it dont expire but they ask you to buy the new one.... at least mine hasnt expired (not sure really it's not my comp)

Trillian doesnt have direct connect firewall support yet.
Ill try DeadAIM again. There was another way you could get rid of the ads by editing a file in the AIM folder, but I forget how you do that.

Yeah man... dead aim all the way.
Doesnt expire and you get the nice tabbed windows.
They'll pester you to update to the newest version (which costs), but just check 'dont remind me again' and you're set.

hmm... i never got something like that from my aim. thats odd. hmm... you could try switching to msn, but microsoft isnt gonna have it for free soon(cause of those damn abusers manipulating children).

Switching is not an option. Everyone I know uses AIM and nothing else. Although I could switch to another if I wanted to be alone I guess.
I tried Yahoo messenger once. Litterally 30 secs after I signed on for the first time, someone IMed me wanting to cyber. It was an actual person too, not some bot(and I know it wasnt someone who knew me cuz it was a totally random S/N i used). Wtf kind of crap is that?

thats weird. I've been using yahoo msg with my clan for 2 years or so now, and no one but the people on my list have sent me messages. I do recommend trillian, even though it doesnt have direct connect firewall support yes, i can connect through trillian at times when i cant through aim...
But i know with ICQ I'm always getting people i dont know sending me crap, i stopped using it.

Hmmm...Looks like the old edit trick doesnt work anymore 
To remove the ads entirely, make sure that AIM is not currently loaded.
Browse to your main AIM directory and open the file AIM.ODL in Notepad.
Scroll down to these lines:
on_group(5)
{
load_ocm advert required
}
on_group(11)
{
load_ocm advert required
}
Remove the lines inside the brackets, but leave the carriage returns (empty lines).
If you did this correctly, these lines should now look like this:
on_group(5)
{
}
on_group(11)
{
}
Save the changed file and close Notepad. Next, open "Advert.ocm" and delete all text in the file. Save the file then close it.

Works fine for me, but I payed for trillian pro, so maybe theres a difference between the free version and the pro version.
Note though, doesn't always work, works most of the time. Sometimes people have to connect to me, rather then me connect to them. If I forward the trillian port though, it works perfectly.

first off i gotta stick up for yahoo messanger(kuz the others who did just made it look bad) ive never got any cyber msg's from yahoo(or aim or icq for that matter) and well i guess thats all i can say about it... fyi your right noone uses yahoo(only trillian users really) btw i use trillian

You could try Gaim, it's like Trillian in the fact you can have different services running. http://gaim.sourceforge.net

No, I'm not 12. Not all clans suck, although i know some that do. Our clan spans ravenshield, demo and retail, and its going fine.
p.s- 12 year olds aren't playing counterstrike and ravenshield...

The older versions dont have support for direct connect through router/firewall. That was just put in like 1 or 2 versions ago(5.1 and higher).

I've used all four messengers... I've had people hack my ICQ, I've had yahoo speed up everything on this machine, (clock starts going nuts, within 5 minutes the time has sped up like 5 hours lol) I know they are closing the MSN chats but the messenger too? and AIM, well I have like 4 contacts on that........ people all over use different messengers, they all have their pros and cons....... I love trillian, have used it quite a bit, just got tired of it for a while..... can't use video on yahoo thru trillian, have to actually use the yahoo program..
