Mysterious blue screen

My computer will get online and everything but when you start to type you can only use certain keys. For example the U key by just taping it brings up Utilitizes managager. R brings up run.Its not the keyboard cause we switched out the keyboard with another. And when you start the computer a black screen with a blue screen pops up and says something about Booting up and has three choices. Removable Device,ATAPI,and HArddrive(these may not be spelled right but as far as i rember this is what it says)And no matter wich one we press it does nothing to help.We have deleted Windows XP home and reinstalled Windows XP Professinal in hopes that it may help. But the same screen pops up. Whats wrong with the computer and how can we fix it?

sounds like the motherboard is going. can you use an adapter to connect the keyboard to another port?

hmm..i would be inclined to agree with redwench..what mobo is it?
You might try setting the bios to default settings, but try redwenchs' suggestion about the keyboard first though.. all the best
