LoD still not working

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: *.]v[ike.

I have spent the last 2 days trying to get LoD to install, everytime at the exact same time i'll be 1/3 of the way thru and the damn thing says to put in the play disk even though it has been in there the whole damn time. Like I said i went to battle.net and their solutions did not work including the one they told you and I went to www.the-helper.net and what they said to do didn't work either. So should i send the disk in to blizzard for an exchange and wait 2 or 3 weeks or would installing it with another disk using my CD key and then trying to use my own CD to play with be a better idea? This is very frustrating yet not un expected from a Blizzard product.

Plz help me out.

thanks,

*.]v[ike.

Don't send the CD into Blizzard unless they tell you. I'm not familiar with D2X, so I can't help you much.

If Blizzard's web site is of no use, make them aware of it. Since you aren't posting any system information, I would suggest you send that to Blizzard also with the symptom.

I am having the same problem...it seems to be with one file because there are many of us having the same problem...I will get halfway through then be asked to reinsert play disk which is already in there.....I have been told that the file that is causing problems is D2music.MPQ..you might be able to have someone copy it from their play disk and send it to you copy it and paste it in your diablo 2 file and try toinstall it then...if you do find someone willing to do this that has already installed LOD and has it running please send it to me also I am starting to get annoyed ...PS blizzard said it is a problem with my disk being damaged but my game plays fine by itself both single and multiplayer it just wont let me install LoD....weird... Having the same damm problem u guys are - & no one will help with mpq file.... if someone finds one please e-mail me

thx....

The D2Music.MPQ file is located on your playdisc, just copy it from there to your d2 dir and try to install LoD again.
When i installed LoD it never even asked for the playdisc cuz I already had the music file on my hd.

The game searches for your .MPQ files in the game dir first, if it cant find them there it looks on the cd. If you copy all the .MPQ files from your playdisc/LoDdisc to your hd, you only need the cd to start the game and it uses the music files on your hd (and you wont die when the cd is spinning up again).

Thanks sniper, but I tried manually copying D2music.mpq by clicking on that icon on my play disk & dropping it into the Diablo2 file folder. It copied up til about 80% and the gave me this message " cannot read from source file or disk " . I have original, legit disks bought from the store. Any other suggestions?

If it says it cant read from the source that means your cd is damaged, even if you dont see any scratches on it. Did you try copying it with other cdrom drives?
And if everything else fails...I got the file too but it's 329 MB so that would take a lot of time to upload it. I got cable but they limited my upload speed to 16kb/s

Thank you again for your reply sniper - if my cd is bad - how come i can still uninstall & reinstall original D2 & play single & multiplayer games? weird... I am still looking everywhere for this file - all I find are mpq cheats & such. I have no other cd drives or computers here. I did not think of the download time of that file - or upload - good god! I think that would take too long of time. But, I would still try ! LOL

Oh, and I think this is a cd-rom problem - why? because I can play d2 still with this disk & I have installed this on my work computer with no problems... both have similar stats... latest goodies.

Sure wish I had another Cd here to try though.

You dont need the d2music.mpq file to install the game, the d2 installer doesnt copy that file, no matter what kind of installation you choose, it's only used to play the ingame music, do you still hear that?

If you want, I can set up a server with the file on it. My pc is allways on so I dont mind. But please dont tell me you're using a dial-up connection...

I will tell you no such thing sniper.... but i'll hint to it. I live in the "boonies", no other service available. I have run into many other people that is having this exact same problem. I think it is my cd rom, but not sure. I don't want to replace my cd drive to see if that is the problem or not, nor do I have another cd drive. I just don't know what to do....

If you have a bad cd... chances are you know someone in your area that also owns D2 (a friend or some such). Borrow his cd, and see if it helps. If it happens with two different discs, then it is probably your cdrom. Also, if your cd isn't scratched up, then it isn't a problem with your cd. Especially if it worked before.

Also, make sure that if the file is in your D2 directory it isn't read only. If it is, it could cause the copy to fail, because it may be unable to overwrite an old file in your D2 directory. This is a solution that has worked for some people.

I will try another cd & let everyone know. Thank you for your response...

thank for your suggestions guys but it isnt my cd ......my cd is brand spankin new and there are NO scratches on it.....also if you go to the blizzard tech forum you will find almost a hundred different people having the EXACT same problem..you can't tell me it is all of our cds i have tried installing the patch and nothing helps....i cant afford another $50 for a new cd and as much as i want to play LoD i am beginning to think it isnt worth it...oh well i guess i can keep trying thanks..

Hmmm..instead of dragging and dropping files to copy them...have you tried to right click the file you want to copy, select copy from the options, and then past to the folder you want...worth a shot.

Posted by: Shadowherald

yeah i have tried that the reason i need the file from somewhere else is because when i try to copy it all i get is a access is denied message....

Ok i think i just found a temp solution to this...

I also got the problem with the music file, i cannot copy it. Iwe tried all the diff solutions blizzard have posted and nothing works.

Anyway heres what i did after many hours or aggrevation... Go download the demo (spawn version). In the demo theres a 40mb music file, its only the first act music (i presume), but at this point im pffff about that... anyway install the demo and copy the demos music into your d2 folder. Then install D2X. Iwe done this and it works !!

Good luck all
